All You Need to KnowAbout Our 'Take a Stand'Campaign
If you want to go fast go alone,
if you want to go far go together
Mental health and its disparities remain overlooked and underfunded in 2026. Inspired by the Jamaican proverb “We likkle but we tallawah” meaning ‘we are small but mighty’ — ACCI’s new campaign, Take A Stand is here to prove that even as a small charity serving the Black Country we can create lasting global change for those currently in the mental healthcare system and for those who may need it in the future through even modest contributions, conversations and commitments.
Following last year’s Take a Seat campaign, where we asked you to listen. Take a Stand is here as we embark on the next leg of the journey, taking action together.
Take a Stand calls on businesses and communities to come together for a shared purpose, to help build a future where holistic and culturally responsive mental health support is no longer postcode monopoly. Through fundraising, advocacy, volunteering and leading important conversations around mental health to raise awareness, every action strengthens our community support for those who need it most. Shining a light on the power of collective action and social responsibility.
Why Take a Stand with ACCI
Initially established in 1987 by the Wolverhampton Rastafarian Progressive Association to respond to the disproportionate number of admissions of people from the African diaspora into acute psychiatric hospitals. The African Caribbean Community Initiative has been acknowledged both nationally and internationally as a leader in culturally responsive community mental health care and holistic humanitarian-based approaches.
Our approach is holistic and not time-bound, because healing does not follow a statutory timetable. Our aim is to always deliver the right support at the right time for as long as it takes.
Over time, it has become better understood that the ACCI model of support is one that works for people, regardless of heritage. So naturally as the years have gone by, we have expanded the scope of care to any adult in the Black Country living with or at risk of mental ill health – This is why we are asking you to stand with us.
